Business valuation is a specialized field requiring a solid foundation of experience, ongoing education, and a high level of professional integrity. As a result, qualified practitioners of business valuation command premium rates, and experience almost unlimited growth potential. Experts predict that the business appraisal market is poised for tremendous growth due to a number of factors. These include the current proliferation of business start-ups, acquisitions and sales, combined with an increase in litigation involving shareholder disputes, divorce, business damages and estate planning.

Membership in the Institute of Business Appraisers is open to anyone with an interest in the
profession who agrees to observe the Institute's
Code of Ethics and to follow the Institute's
standards of business appraisal practice. As a member, you are entitled to the services and resources described in the
membership benefits area of this website. When becoming a member you will receive a Membership Certificate, a copy of the Code of Ethics and a copy of the IBA standards of business appraisal practice.
IBA’s professional accreditation program is one of
the most important components of the Institute's
professional development curriculum. Members who meet
established criteria may attain the following
designations. The
Certified Business Appraiser (CBA)
denotes a level of competence attained only by the most
accomplished business appraisers, and grants its
recipients special recognition and prestige among fellow
appraisers, the courts, and throughout the business
appraisal community. The
Accredited in Business
Appraisal Review (ABAR) designation is a unique
credential designed to provide a level of quality
assurance to stakeholders in the business appraisal
process. The
Business Valuator Accredited for
Litigation (BVAL) designation is designed to
recognize experienced business appraisers who
demonstrate their ability to competently present expert
testimony which supports their objective conclusion of
value.
